Regret

I can't get it out of my head
What I said
I can't get it out of my head.

I was a fool
I lost my cool
I blamed it all on you.

Oh I had my facts right
As far as they go
But there were things I didn't know
The blame was further up the line
It was out of your control
But by the time you told me
You had already blown me away
The blows had been exchanged
And nothing I could say
would mend the damage done
Every word came out wrong.

I finally apologised
and you hung up the phone
For your answer
was the buzzing of the dial tone.
No forgiveness proffered.
No understanding given.

Oh we pissed each other off all right.
We made each other's day
into one of those days.
The sum total of human happiness went down today
through my fault.
