How to make a Dorset Button - updated version - more close ups - 2 designs - crosswheel & pinwheel! This video is an updated version of my old video - taking on board some of the comments I've received over the years.

I've worked two buttons in this video, the traditional Dorset Crosswheel (also known as a cartwheel) and another known as a pinwheel. They are fairly different techniques, so worth watching if you enjoy button making!

How to make a shirtlace button (not a Dorset Button) - a zwirnknopfe ring button How to make a shirtlace ring button - often called a Dorset button but made in a different way to traditional Dorset buttons. Instead, the button is made using the zwirnknopfe ("thread button") method. This tutorial also includes a variation at the end that is seen very often in vintage zwirnknöpfe buttons.

For the sample, I used less than a skein of Lilly Sugar'n Cream yarn in the color ''Swimming Pool''. You can use any cotton yarn that you like, however the pattern is written for the Medium 4 weight yarn. The pattern is written for an 8.5'' x 8.5'' cloth, but is completely and easily customizable to adjust the width and length to any size that you like.

Pattern by Louise Patterson. The Diagonal Braid is a textured stitch that produces a reversible fabric. This pattern is for a dishcloth, but it could be extended to make a scarf or blanket.

This looks like a sort of staggered rib stitch.

Pattern by The Kitchen Sink Shop. Interesting asymmetrical pattern making the main part of this dishcloth/washcloth.

Pattern by Missy Angus...An excellent scarf or dishcloth pattern! Dishcloths that comes out square and lay flat - scarves that look great or male or female - an excellent pattern for making gift-giving scarves! Both sides are beautiful, so this makes a great reversible pattern. The stitch pattern is a multiple of 3 +1 - so cast on any amount you want and get the same great look! Looks great in solids, ombres and stripes!

Worked in rows, using two Tunisian hooks. The hooks do not need to be the same size, but your gauge will be determined by the larger hook, and the smaller hook should be large enough to work comfortably with your chosen yarn.\015\012\015\012Choose any weight yarn you like, and hooks of a size appropriate to your yarn weight.\015\012\015\012This method comes from a YouTube video made for the Australian Handknitters and Spinners Group on Facebook, and have adapted the method in this pattern. Tutorial on how to crochet a towel topper; the pattern is by the videographer. Things I like about this design: it doesn't require a sewing machine because the base of the design is chain-stitches across the middle of the (tea) towel, you don't have to guess at the length of the chain-stitches, the gathering is done by decreases in the crochet, and the stitch-pattern in the main body of the towel-topper is quite pretty.

Pattern by Arcelia Rodriguez. The scrubber pattern was inspired by a Japanese Tawashi pattern. The scrubber pattern is easy but has an interesting construction that turns the knitted rectangular strips into its final circular shape. For a scrubber, the best yarns to use would be either cotton for absorbency, or nylon for abrasion.,

Donna Wolfe from Naztazia demonstrates how to both crochet and knit a twisted scrubbie based upon a chinese knot.

Pattern by Marcia McCormack. This uses polyester \scrubbie\ yarn, which is a shaggy yarn intended for making... scrubbies. This pattern uses seed stitch to make a square, and then you fold the square into quarters and stitch the sides together. This gives it the bulk needed to make a good scrubber.

Looks like a nice thick coaster; possibly useful larger as a potholder.

The coasters and the basket with lid are done in rope-crochet = crochet stitches made round rope. Yarns used: any yarn will do: from lace weight taken double or triple, to bulky. The definite size depends on the rope you'll use inside of your stitches and on the yarn used. You can make something fine and delicate as well as something sturdy. I worked with two strands of lace weight leftovers from shawls - I changed often one strand in color, so that I obtain that 'tweedy' effect. The final size is as you decide it's got to be -- no gauge needed but you'll need to crochet with a smaller hook than normally done with that yarn, because the stitches need to be tight to add some solidity.
