A couple of well-researched recipes for do-it-yourself alcohol-ink blending solution. Now I understand why the usual DIY recipe uses glycerine... and is completely wrong.

Rusty texture technique ("DIY Rust Paste"); this is a technique for making an embossed or bas-relief surface look like it is all rusty and neglected. It is a multi-layer technique, not just a single application of a paste to make things look rusty. It requires dark brown (Burnt Umber) paint and rusty-brown (Burnt Sienna) paint for the under-layers; these have a texture powder added to the paint to give it... texture! If you can't get the grit powder, cinnamon will do (it's bark, it isn't going to dissolve or go rotten). Other paints are then added in more layers to get a metallic and patina look.

Tip: If you have larger boards you can add two more screws to your press and place them at the four corners. This will help make the pressure more even.

This is the easiest and fastest photo transfer paper the artis has used! The shiny side of mailing labels, with Liquitex Gel Medium. When the gel medium is allowed to dry completely, this paper will provide a VERY clean transfer. In addition, the artist had no printer jam problems, as can sometimes happen with thin photo transfer paper.

Faux leather using cardboard (approx 300gsm), water, glycerine, embossing folders, inks, and sealer. (and cloth and glue, but that's in the next video). Really impressive.

This demo shows how to use good old kitchen foil/tin foil/aluminum foil to make an embossed background for your cardmaking, paper crafts & scrapbooking. It also shows how to use Gold foil to make the same embossed background and how to take the carrier sheet off the top of the foil.

Nifty. Looks fairly straightforward, useful for small gifts. Would need stiff-ish paper, or cardstock, and wouldn't survive squashing, but it does look nice.

Watercolour/Dye/Food-colouring + Epsom Salt + Table Salt + water + paper = pretty! Basically. adding Epsom salt and table salt to watercolour painting means that the salt crystalizes as the paint dries, adding a shimmery surface. Since both Epsom salt and table salt dissolve in warm water, no need for boiling water. Though on the downside, this also means that unless the painting is sealed, the crystals might dissolve away from the painting if it gets wet or humid.

Cardstock + water + stamp + paint = faux leather. This is probably most effective when the colour of the cardstock matches that of raw leather - that beige/tan/peach sort of colour.

Custom-sized box templates! For the kind of boxes where you cut out the template and glue it. Quite a few different designs - not really complicated ones, but a good collection nonetheless.

But it also has ideas about decorating the resultant faux book, which is good.

Decorating a faux book. Really cool ideas. This references a paid tutorial... if I wanted to get all those exact effects it would be worth buying; as it is, this has simply opened my eyes to the possibilities, such as using brass stampings, old newspaper, string, etc.
