"Down To The Bone" (Highlander)

Summary: "Not all Immortals are rich, thin, and beautiful. Gertrude decides Amanda has more than she deserves."

The series Highlander showed us that immortals ranged widely in age, race, intelligence and ability. Yet, I'd just read a story which casually remarked that all immortals were young and beautiful. Ha! You wish. It was so refreshing to read a story where this assumption is overturned -- but not only that, this was well-written; angsty, moving, and sad. You feel sorry for Gertrude, understand her obsession with the Beautiful People.

"The Physics of Quickenings" (Highlander)

This manages to get some fun Joe and Methos banter in while looking at the esoteric topic of the title, with some interesting speculation, and even some equations (which, to save those of us whose physics is rusty or non-existent, were in the appendix). A classic.
