I haven't read the Liaden books, but what you've written is very
evocative -- it reminds me of Jane Yolen with her fictional folklore.
Etta Setta delve so deep / Make us talk while we're asleep. That
line made me shiver, considering what we know about fast-Penta in the
Bujoldverse.
I kind of want to read the Liaden books now. Except I'll probably be
pretending the Enemy are secretly Cetagandans. ;-) Hope you and the
Liaden author don't mind . . .
This is really, really fascinating. Like lignota, I've never read (or
even heard of) the Liaden books, but the language here is very evocative,
and really beautiful. Simple and chilling, as the best nursery rhymes and
fairy tales are, at their heart.
A very clever spot to put the crossover, and it does work with both
canons! Of course, Cetagandans now creep me out even more than they did
already. Also, now I'm thinking about Cetagandan haut gender politics and
the gender issues among dramliza. It works.
A scary look at the way the Cetagandans might have developed - into
madness. All done in a few words and two perfect "nursery rhymes" (so
hard to do!). Congratulations.
I don't know anything at all about the Liaden books, but these nursery
rhymes are so chilling -- as though the truth has been handed down in
stories and tales over a long, long time to end up as these children's
songs, slightly distorted.
(Have you read Riddley Walker? This reminds me a little of that.)
Oh, this is awesome. And such a chilling prospect for the Cetagandan
Empire - and yet so believable. And I think Jela would totally make a
kick-ass Barrayaran (I know he's not in Liaden canon, but...).
I love this! I'm a member of the Bujold email list, and if you are not a
member alredy, you might enjoy being around us fellow fen. And Ms. Bujold, who
sometimes drops in with a comment. And I'm a Liaden fan, too.
Make that two. Oooooh, clever! I love the combination of my two favorite 'verses :)

The nursery rhymes are lovely, too.

And another who loves both series! :-) THis is a very intriguing crossover and makes me want about 100,000 more words. :->

Oh, and the nursery rhyme format works so well with both universes, but somehow especially the Liaden one. Thank you for doing this!

what a marvellous crossover - it's chilling and quite easy to believe! the rhymes are note-perfect

I have no idea about the crossover 'verse, but this is incredibly creepy and evocative, particularly the rhymes. shivers

I didn't know that I wanted to read it, but I'm really glad I have. Those nursery rhymes are chilling, particularly:
Etta Setta climb so high
Tore the stars from out the sky.
Etta Setta delve so deep
Make us talk while we're asleep.
Very evocative. Thank you!
