Digging Up The Stargate

The Egyptological connections in Stargate SG-1

Stargate the movie and Stargate SG-1 the TV series make many references to mythology, particularly Egyptian mythology, due to its premise that the Egyptian gods and godesses were actually the alien Gou'ald, alien parasites that take over human beings.

So, one day, when I was doing some research for a story, I was looking up a reference, and came across "Abydos". When I came across "Naquada" I realized that it wasn't just gods and goddesses that the writers of Stargate were using. So I thought I would actually look up what I could find, to see if there was a real Egyptological reference there, as well as to find the traditional meaning of the references which we already knew or assumed to be Egyptological.

When all was said and done, there were surprisingly few, but there may be more references than just the major ones I found. Nevertheless, Stargate SG-1 has its own mythology which has gone far beyond the Egyptian one. And in some cases, it went far beyond the Egyptian one even with its Egyptian references. The differences are fascinating. Read and enjoy.
