Thousands of years after an entire colony mysteriously disappears, antiquities dealer Alex Benedict comes into possession of a cup that seems to be from the Seeker, one of the colony's ships. Investigating the provenance of the cup, Alex and his assistant, Chase Kolpath, follow a deadly trail to the Seeker -- strangely adrift in a system barren of habitable worlds.

Thoughts

This again follows the pattern of the other Alex Benedict books: a mystery, a painstaking tracking down of clues, snippets of "popular culture" regarding the famous part of the mystery, lots of dead ends, perserverence; interspersed with death threats and assassination attempts. Not fast-paced, but absorbing all the same.

The mystery here was good, and I liked the surprise at the end. The death-threat part was not so good this time, though; oh yes, it was very baffling -- but it was very baffling because the person who was behind it, I just couldn't believe they would do that. It also wasn't directly connected with the central mystery, unlike the previous two.

But still, good book.
