Despite the fact that Australia harbors more things that can kill you in extremely nasty ways than anywhere else, including sharks, crocodiles, snakes, even rip-tides and deserts, Bill Bryson adores the place, and he takes his readers on a rollicking ride far beyond the beaten tourist path.
This was recommended by a couple of my friends, so I thought I'd give it a go. I don't usually read a lot of non-fiction, so this is a bit of a departure for me. But it manages to be both informative and entertaining, with a wry self-depreciation on the part of the author.
Unfortunately, it couldn't keep my interest up; maybe I'm just not into travel books.
